An Undertaking of Epic Proportions

Do you ever get a wild hair and do something so crazy that you wonder what who on earth got you into this mess and then realize it was you and have no one to blame?

I decided to redesign all of Alex's tattoo's yesterday.

This is a huge deal for me, not just because of the dolls (all thirteen of them. THIRTEEN) but because of the comic and all my art.

Thirteen dolls.

At least four of them are too young for tatts.

I'm wiping Alex I down this weekend (tomorrow, after a day of dolly fun with the peeps -- which is also my Birthday! Yay! Doll fun on my bday!! Also, my dog's birthday is the day after, and my cat turns 17 on the 27th (he old). And I ordered Alex april 7, in 2008 - so his bday is coming up too - may 6 - he's the only doll who gets anything at all) so he'll be all sparkly and clean as a wee babe. 2.5 was wiped already, III will be next and II was never actually re-tattooed after getting his DC body so he's already blank.

In the grand tradition of being experimented on, Alex I will be the first to get them back, though I have to do the designing first. I'm doing it the right way this time. Lots of sketching and placement on the body mock-ups I drew yesterday. A few of them will stay the same -- the Rose, Yin Yang, infinity thorn band on his wrist, the 666 and A&...Omega on his hands. He also has Life is Pain (what movie is that from?!?!?! GUESS!) on his back that won't change. Everything else is getting redone. I did the the tramp stamp on his back this morning and so far I don't hate it. I might have to think about it a little more before making it "permanent" though. The wings will somewhat the same though I want to change them up a little first.

So sometime in the next decade, all my Alexes might be finished. Maybe....
I don't know why I decided to do this now - When I have a hundred and fifty seven other doll things I have started and need to work on......but I've really needed to fix them for a while. I started adding "ink" to him years ago and only gave certain ones any significance....the rest were just tacked on him lol. I think I can do better. The thing that really bothers me is that I had his arms showing in my comic....oh well. Continuity, I don't has it.

Also I finished Woleverine's faceup....but I'm not sure how I feel about it. I have to look at it a little more I think. I might post a picture. I took a couple with my phone....but they're not great.

I hope everyone has a good weekend! :D

  1. I've always had a big fascination with your Alex character and I love that you have him in his different life stages. Changing up his tattoo is a great way to celebrate his birthday as well!

I hope you do end up posting a photo of Wolverine. I'd love to see the face up.

Happy Birthday for tomorrow! Hope it's a good one!

    1. Thanks! :D It was fun!

Speaking of birthdays for Alex, a friend pointed out that as a character, he's 13 this year XD so it's a good time to freshen him up! I already finished most of them, and I have to say I'm much happier with how they look now.

I will be posting Logan as is eventually because I want opinions, but I have to drag him into work first so I can have light...and he's heavy XD
      It'll happen!!

  2. Jeebus! I didn't actually realize you had that many Alex's! Here I was feeling a bit silly for wanting two of my Soji haha XD

I'd be lying if I said it didn't sound like a real momentous task and that I didn't think you were indeed, a little bit crazy - but at the same time I'm pretty excited for you! Even if it takes a little longer to finally have one of them 'complete' there's nothing quite like that feeling of satisfaction in having them 'right' and it's undoubtedly going to bring you even closer to his character :D

Would also love to see how Logan is coming along!

    1. Ha, never feel silly wanting more versions of dolls/characters, because there is always someone who will have more. Sadly that someone is probably me XD
But other people too!! I swear....

It was a momentous task before, and I only half-assed it as is lol. I really didn't want to start over either, but Alex I was a disgusting mess and it bothered me so he would have been redone anyway. 2.5 was worse which is why I cleaned him off earlier in the year, leaving only III with any kind of work done. And he was never finished. Alex should have wings on his back from his shoulders to his ass and I never put them on any of the dolls, mostly because I had never drawn them out in a way I really liked before. Hopefully I can use this as a chance to get everything finished for good.

At least until they get gross again D: D: D:

      They're good at that.
Well, the NS ones are, the WS ones never get dirty, which is weird since they only ever wear black.

  3. Wow... good luck with that! That is quite the undertaking! I'd be intimidated doing that with just one doll but you have so many Alexes! I hope it goes well!

    1. I'm totally intimidated. But I keep trying to think of it as a good thing, because if I have all of them realized completely, I might actually get to finish one of the dolls, instead of having a few of them half finished....

I wiped Alex I Saturday....he's sparkly clean now. And naked. It's weird....

  4. Oh and happy belated birthday!!

  5. O_O That's a lot of tattoos.

I'm excited for your Wolvie, and already love his sideburns... I wish I had a doll that needed epic Wolvie-burns. :D

Unrelated, but if you're still considering bodies for Aqua, have you seen Island Doll's Wind Doll gender-neutral body? It's a fairly soft, boyish body--similar in idea to the default body Dikadoll has for Aqua, but better executed in my opinion. I have no idea as to fit/resin match, but it's just something that's been rattling around in my head a while. I want Aqua as well (well, Dew actually) and have been looking into genderless body options for him/her. :3
