DC Villains Unite! And Batman.

I have literally been preparing for the Superhero themed meet for months. I wanted all my Mini DC Villains and Batman to be as ready as possible, because if not for that meet, when? With both myself and my roommate working pretty much non-stop Saturday, we did it. The meet was Sunday and it went fantastically!! Several people dressed their dolls up, which was awesome. Mine are the only ones who are "full-timers", but before them I still had Gambit and Jean, so I was always ready for this meet lol.

Here is the whole (Mini) group!

Poison Ivy isn't mine, she's my Roommate's Unoa Lusis (I did the faceup on the winking plate as Ivy). Their props nearly did me in. I had to paint Joker's cane (it's the Tonner Joker's cane, which for some reason was green), make Batman's utility belt (it's not great), and Harley's Mallet. The hardest of all was Riddler's stupid staff, which has been done for awhile but keeps breaking. No glue holds this thing together, I swear. It broke when I got there, and after the host of the meet glued it back together, it broke when I was packing up! Ugh.

Also present was Giant Joker v1 and his new Harley.

Don't even get me started on how much I love them. She might end up with Version Two (Jaguar) because she's very stylized and while he is too, not quite as much as her...but for now they make a great non-couple!

His cane I made from "scratch". I mutilated a BTAS Joker by pulling off his head and gluing it too a dowel rod XDD I seriously feel guilt for destroying an action figure, even one I already own. My other Joker action figures are now living in fear....but not too much fear. They're all safe. 

I managed to grab a few decent pics of them in front of the backdrop I bought with all these DC guys (and girls) in mind after I got home from the meet.

She stole Alex's wig. And then ruined it by coloring it. I don't think he'll be happy.
She also got a pair of his old eyes. Eep.

Big Harley is kind a trashier version, mixing the New 52 and movie versions, since Mini Harley is more classic, pre-new 52. She's also a boy mold, with zero expression at all. I had to draw that smile on her so she'd be more Harley-ish. This is the head if anyone is interested. So anyway she's the reason I'm now broke as I bought two dolls pretty much back to back. Technically I bought an IH Amy, which will go to my roommate since it's what she wanted anyway....but still. Lots of my $$ sliding out of my hands. I think she's worth it. Especially since I don't have a girl who looks like this....with the exception of Isis all my girls are short and a little stocky or proportioned different. Even Isis has small boobs. I totally needed a busty, slender, tall girl. Well, taller. She's tiny next to him. Which is how it should be, he's pretty tall.

As I thought, Owen makes a fantastic Batman. He's perfect, the only complaint I could have is that I still think his head is large in comparison to his shoulders....but that's on IH not me. I have to figure out a better way to make the belt, and probably his gloves too, but for now I'm very happy with him. And totally intimidated because I had been thinking of all kinds of photoshoots I wanted to do and now he's ready and I actually have to do some!

Gambit and Jean also went to the meet (thanks to me and one other BJD owner DC characters outnumbered the Marvel characters a lot to two XD) and Gambit got to try out the glowing eyes I've had for a year and never used....but their unruly hair really drove me nuts. I need to do better with real wigs.

Jean's tattoos are chipping, which makes me so mad. But they were fairly easy to do, and I can probably fix the one on her back, but the one on her shoulder will have to come off and get redone someday. I'm going to add her to my list of nine million things my dolls need done.

Speaking of, my IOS Jaguar head showed up Monday. 

I'm totally in love with it (I knew I would be), but he presents a new problem I didn't really see coming. He fits on the Dollshe body even worse than the RD Norman head does. :P

I was planning on modding the neck of the body a little to get Norman to fit better (which is why I bought a new body for my Hound), so I figure I'll wait until I've got that done and try him on it again to see if modding will even make a difference. From the front it looks great. Amazing. It's just what I'd want. From the side it's horribly gappy and any movement makes it worse. Mods would be a must, I just don't know how much. So at least I don't have to spring for a body just yet. Especially since I have already bought two dolls this week. Yes. This week.

Regardless I've been thinking of what I want for him....I was really into the idea of the Dollshe Rhythmos body (which I swear I spell differently every time I type it), because it has the same shape as the other two, but no details, so I think it would be great for this stylized guy. But after hearing how badly the thing poses, I'm not sure I want to deal with that.

My #1 of all time choice would be Doll Chateau Adult....but not only will he not match at all, but that will cost me a fortune and be a good 9 month wait I do not want.

Dollmore Model would be perfect, if they sold their bodies in WS. WS being so limited I'd never find one and probably end up paying more for it than the DC body. Plus even yellowed it would be whiter than this head, which is pinkish.

So that's where I am. With all of these WS Dollshe bodies floating around I really want to get something for Spock, but until I decide what I'm doing with Kirk, they get to wait. I've been tempted to try and get a Dollstown 18 for Benedict, give the Dollmore body to Kirk and buy Dollshe for Spock. But that's a lot of money lol. I need to make sure everyone will fit on everything first.

And it's November.

Where did the year go?

I'm still alive (barely) though it's been a crap couple of months. I miss this blog though, and all of the blogs I read, and the people who write them, and I really want and need to get back into writing. Since it's November and my creativity seems to have suffered a horrible death, instead of doing Nanowrimo, I thought I might try to bring this thing back to life.

And I really have a lot of doll news.

First, my life.
Long story short, stuff happened. My car broke down, my cat died, other stuff that sucks and some stuff that didn't. My poor baby Rocky got very sick very fast and there was nothing that could be done. It was like, three days. He was 18 and a half and I was really not ready to let him go. I will miss him forever. And I could seriously go on about him forever, but I won't, it's depressing.

In order not be depressed forever I adopted a new kitten: Doctor Peter Venkman (because my other cat is Gozer the Destructor). He's a little ball of fluffy insanity and I'm so happy to have him. He made Gozer look like the most laid-back kitten in the world however - he's got to be watched and played with and loved pretty much all the time and I'm a little afraid to doll around him lol. My other cats never bothered the dolls, and so far he's pretty much the same...but he's really unpredictable. And he attacks everything.

He's a little older now, and slightly bigger, but still this cute. Today is his third week with me.

Dolls.
Wow. I need to update the hell out of my profile. I have sold a lot, put more up for sale, had a few acquisitions and am waiting on two heads. My DC comic group is slowly taking over, they're more fun for me right now than my own characters, and seem to be eating up several of my other dolls at this point.

My Unoa B-El, formerly Clover is now the Riddler full time.
Isis, my Dollmore Judith who's body was sacrificed to Harley Quinn is going to be Catwoman if I can ever find another Judith body for her (Harley gets the current one. It's hers now)
The Unoa Chibi - Mini Kimi - is probably going to turn into a boy and be Robin.
My Hound just lost his body....long story.

I actually did something I've sworn a million times I wouldn't do and bought another Iplehouse doll. I got tired of looking for an Owen head and I also became paranoid that none of the hybrids I had planned would work...so I just ordered the full doll. He's been here for weeks now and I was very pleasantly surprised by him. He's not a perfect poser by any means. He's got the horrible hidden double-joints I hated on the EID body, and the same crappy ankles, but on the smaller scale it's so much easier to deal with! He stood right out of the box, sits nicely and slouches, so I'm pretty happy with him.

He's going to make a great Batman! :D

I actually managed to get that OE Dollzone Carter head for Joker, so now he's got two heads.

 this was... A lot of fun. And it led to all sorts of bad. I kept thinking that all this ouch would look so much better on an SD sized head. This is not the first time an SD sized Joker has occurred to me. Way back in the day when I saw IOS Jaguar I thought he'd be a great Joker. We discussed it in the comic thread of DOA - Ringdoll Norman Dark Side was also mentioned as a good head. This was the first time I thought about it seriously though.....and I found a Jaguar head on DOA. I clung to denial and didn't buy it, but I found Ringdoll Dark Norman on eBay.....and things just tumbled downhill. I went on and bought Jaguar (he's on the way), and bid on Norman, and actually won (I never win eBay auctions) SO I essentially have two SD Joker heads. Norman has been here a few days and is on the Hound body (he's NS and my Hound is WS lol) and I'm hoping Jaguar arrives this week. 

I was planning on figuring out which I liked best and using that one. And to be fair, having different versions is rarely actually my idea. My mom suggested it this time....she liked both heads. So do I. Norman is phenomenal, and Jaguar is a head I've always wanted. I need a bunch of 70 cm bodies anyway. I just bought Ringdoll K's head too. I'm not sure what I'm going to do with him, I just really love the mold. And there's more but he's a whole entry himself. 

So that's a rundown of what I've been doing.  I may go into more detail about some of it in later entries. Norman is an amazing mold, I can't wait to get him together, and when all the rest of my stuff on order gets here my DC group needs a group pic. Thanks to the efforts of my roommate, they look amazing. 

I really hope everyone out there has had a better couple months than I have! I'm over this year lol. I am ready for 2016 already. Incidentally I should get an additional week of vacation as I will have my (omfg) 15 year anniversary at work. OMFG.

Bodies, bodies everywhere.

So one of the main reasons I put a crap-ton of my dolls\parts up for sale was to make some room and thin out the herd, so to speak. But I also seem to need a bunch of bodies for heads and dolls that just needed an upgrade.

EDIT: Ooh I'm so excited - Wyn's body shipped, Kirks head just shipped!! I hope Kirk works. I have an outfit planned for him already so I need to get him a body. *crosses fingers*

A quick rundown of who needs a body:

Mini David - Migidoll Mir - has been on a Lati Blue body, but I've decided I hate it. I spent a lot of time looking for something as tall...and i've decided it just doesn't exist. Something that is close was the Granado body however, and it looks really nice. They opened up for a very short time to sell parts, so I had to buy it then. So Mini David actually has his body on the way.

I sold Wyn's body last week and thanks to all the sales I've had, I have enough to get to get him a new one. I've been set on Dollstown, but I was unsure of which one. My choices were the DT 15yr boy, 13yr girl and 15yr girl, since all three are up for sale on the MP right now. After freaking out about it all day, I decided the 15yr is the way to go and pmed that person - sadly I'll have to get the whole doll and I don't need the head....but it's not like the 15yr girl is readily available, so I don't have much choice. I'm really hoping this works out. Wyn has been due some fixing up for years. It would be nice to have him perfect for a change.

Sage or Gabriel will probably be next on the list. I'd really like to have Sage taller and slimmer, and Gabriel has never had a body, so it would be nice to get her moving. Kirk needs to ship so I can see if he will work out before I think about bodies for him and Spock.

I probably won't be selling Mini David's Lati body. I have....tentative plans for it, even though I hate it. We'll see if they pan out.

Also also, what do you guys think about back drops? I've been looking at them on Ebay but I'm unsure about actually pulling the trigger...which is silly, I should just do it.

All the Villains

Remember how I said I was working on Harley Quinn?

 She's a WIP still - I need to work on or redo her faceup - it was done on a day I should not have been doing faceups and is messier than I'd like (some of the mess was done deliberately, some was not. XD). The wig she's wearing is a Monique Jojo in white blond (Alex's) in a 6/7 and I swear it's too small for her. I always thought Unoa's wore a 6/7, but thinking about it, both Macchi and Clover have on 7/8s. So maybe not. She needs new eyes (those are gappy) and lots and lots of clothes. Lots of clothes. I have a list of props I want for her too. they all need props!!

 She works great with Joker.

 

She's on my Dollmore Judith body (Isis is not gone forever - I'm definitely keeping her head...but while I'm on this DC kick she won't be making anymore appearances), which is a PERFECT comic book girl body. I mean perfect. I actually had said that the first night I had Isis, after taking her out of her elaborate full set and playing with her a little. Her head is the Unoa Sist Bully plate. I have a Lusis Yawn plate I borrowed from a friend she's going to use as well.

She's very camera shy. The first day I had her together I posed her and Joker all over the place...and they were great. When I got out my camera she refused to even stand next to him. That pic took forever and it sucks lol

Joker got an Arkham uniform (version 1) so he can do things like sit around incarcerated.

 

 Also the cards. Might be a tad small, but they're better than the alternative which are giant. Sad thing is, I don't believe this deck has an actual Joker in it :(

 I've put up pretty much all the resins I intend to sell in the last couple of weeks - and it's a lot. I have a huge list of trades on each thread I'm trying very hard to stick too, and the very first thing I sold was a partial trade that included a Unoa FP and a Fairyland Minifee Mir head. Mir was the down payment and shipped last week. After he shipped, but before he arrived, I realized for sure that he wouldn't work for what I'd intended.... At the same time I was offered and turned down a trade for a doll not on my list, for another item I was selling.

I was looking at Dollzone's Benjamin, a very unique sculpt, and trying to decide if I needed one to possible be the Scarecrow....but I figured it would be a shame to cover that face with a mask....and he'd do better on a DC body. And omg realized what I'd done in turning down that trade only about an hour before.

So for the first time in my life I pmed someone and was all "I'm so sorry for changing my mind but would they still want to do the trade?" Yes I'm a flake. But seriously. This will be the prefect Scarecrow. PERFECT. And I didn't think about it at all until it was almost too late. *fail*

 While I was waiting to hear back from them I realized who Mir could be.

Anyone watch Gotham??

My camera hates him. Obviously he's even more a WIP than Harley. I am 100% sure he'll work out though - with the right faceup and wardrobe. And again, props (these villains need so many props!!! WHY?!). He's on a temporary body, but it might end up being permanent - it's an odd shape for him and he fits it weird. Mir has a very long chin and the head just eats all necks - even with the FL neck key (which I'm using). It works for this character however - he's a little on the awkward side. The body is also SHORT.

EDIT: he also got his new eyes today!! I have to take some pictures....they're definitely different.

So with another hairs cut, better clothes, a faceup, eyes...shoes (he's barefoot)...pretty much everything, I think Oswald Cobblepot will be a thing. I have glasses at home I need to look at - cause he needs some version of those too.

Since I'll have four of them I thought it would be fun for them to all have prison uniforms together....except I remembered Penguin has probably never been in Arkham...being sane and all. He'll have to settle for Blackgate greys. I'm sure Jonathan Crane will look good in orange.

Since I'm obsessed with these guys right now I haven't done much with my other dolls (other than disassemble some to sell - poor Wyn. He's a head in a box!!), but due to horrible weather it's not like I can. I have a few things on order: another possible Captain Kirk head, chattering teeth and eyes for Joker, eyes for another doll, an umbrella and a purple zombie lamb hat...but that's it. I am hoping to scrape up the money for bodies for Wyn and either Sage (yeah, another new body for her) or Spock or Kirk or Gabriel. Assuming Kirk works out when he gets here. Fingers crossed. I don't have a back up this time. D:

Dolls, Dolls, Dolls

Just a quick (heh) update on the old collection.

Alex III
Needs his claws glossed again, and he'll be as finished as he's going to get. I really wish I could get a couple pictures of him before I pack him away, but there's no time and I don't want clothes on him at all because I'm paranoid he'll get chipped, so just envision how cool he is. Awesome, right? XD

He's happy to have his head back on, and his hair (giant mega-Godzilla has been holding it for a month while he's been worked on. I think he's sad to let it go.) back. Though I put a net over his head to tame it. I used some leave-in conditioner on it and it's super-soft now XD

The Kara Klums as a unit
Well, things are changing for them. I beheaded II last night and gave him his old body back, leaving 2.5 a head again. I'm putting the DC body up for sale. If it doesn't sell I have an idea for it already, but I would really just like to sell it and replace it with another Y-03 body, sans extra joints. If that happens I'll decide what to do with the other one.

So I'm down to 6 again, since 2.5 has no body. Lol. Or I will be once I grab the new guy....who may not end up with the mods I planned - I might do it to 2.5. I'm not as attached to him as I am the others, and if I can get a junk body for him I'll feel better testing out things I've never done before. The new one will still get an open mouth mod, since I want two of them, but a lesser one...hopefully better than the first one I did. I'm not happy with it. So basically I'll just be switching them around again. Heh heh.

I'm dying to work on Azrael right now (of course, when I can't.) so I might clean him off after Dollism and start him. I don't have a concrete plan, I just want to draw on him a lot. >.<
He may also be naked for the rest of his life....

Skullface just needs his one hand finished (one of these days it will happen) and he's done. So that's nice. Maybe before Halloween...

I and III are as done as they're going to get, more done than they've ever been. It's a little scary...I'm terrified for them now D:

I'd love Skullface and Chibi Skullface to be finished. So that's the plan....yeah.

Even better if Angelbattle Cream would get here by then!! But I doubt that'll happen.

Seriously, I couldn't have picked a better head if I'd totally done it on purpose. It looks like him! I'm not kidding. I just got him yesterday and I can't wait to have him together. But he's going to Dollism to be my Faceup Workshop head, and then I'll probably have to wipe that faceup and give him a real one someday next week...so it might be a while.

But he looks amazing on the body (not a resin match sadly), the wigs look great on him and I love him with Jean. So a big huge and excited yay!!

I'd still like to attempt Wolverine 2.0 with different mold, but for right now I just want the two of them. I'd like to finish them completely. Either get Remy his own body, or one for Marcus, so there's no more sharing (though I am not in a hurry - I need to work on Marcus first. I think I just decided the Granado body is now Gambits....), and find both him and Jean some really good clothes, get them both blushed and complete before tackling any more projects....I don't want to get overwhelmed again. Ha.

I can't sell my Afi head. I can't. I tried, I really did....but I would rather he sit in a box forever and never get used than sell him and regret it. I am planning currently to attempt to join the next Soom Teeny Gem free choice or whatever they call it, and try to get another one, with maybe the bunny parts if that's an option, in tan to replace Hopscotch. If that happens I'll sell my head, but maybe I won't...I love the modded eyes on mine.  I just don't like him on the DK body. Of all my YO sized dolls it was my least favorite.

And I feel SUPER guilty selling my Ripley days. I mean really. Other than one DMK I don't sell Dollmore resin. But I can't deal with all the big guys anymore. Ryuji stays, Israfel stays, they can sit on the top shelf together and I will hopefully be ok with that. I just keep thinking "if" with Metatron...and I can't think about "if" anymore. He just needs to go. I'm glad I never wiped his LE faceup now XD

I hope I can sell this stuff. I think the key is going to be to just put it up and keep it up...and lower the price if I have too. It has to go, I feel better just having the bulk of them off my shelf.
The funny thing is, I don't even know what I'll use the money for!! Maybe a body for my last floating head? A body for the newly bodiless Kara Klum?? Who knows. I am thinking of shelling Sage's brother, I have a list of heads that might work as him....so that could be fun. We'll see.

Paper BJDs?

I have been massively busy since Thursday.

First, Thursday, Ghost finally showed up!!

 

Ghost is the Dollzone Carter my best friend ordered in February for my Birthday in April. Lol. Happy Birthday to meeeee! Late! But still awesome!

I love him. He's adorable and weird, which is how I like my dolls. He's keeping the grey hair, and will wear mostly black, white, grey and natural colors (cause he's a ghost). I want to order him a couple more wigs - and then for now that's it. I have 4 dolls that I need to faceup at the same time, him, the two Boo's and my DZ Star. None of that will happen until after Dollism.

 

 Speaking of Star, I bought the 5Star Tong Tong from DDE. It came Monday and now my little "dragon" has a body again! Only this time he's a demon. The horns that came with Tong Tong are perfect for him. I'm going to glue them to his head. I'm not kidding.
He looks fantastic right now. All the clothes that are too big for Chibs are going to him.

I worked on Alex III like a fiend all weekend, but he's not close to finished and the weather has been HORRIBLE. Hot and so humid you can't breath. I'm not taking the chance....he can wait. Not for long, but at least until this weekend. I have to finish him, he can't go out in the public half-done!!

I also cleaned my room. This doesn't sound impressive, but if you'd seen it, you'd know....I can walk in there now. I'm doing another wardrobe purge, along with some hats, shoes and other crap I don't need. Then a rearrange of everything so hopefully everything will actually have a place for a change.

Now for the fun part.

I woke up Friday morning to this. I'm not really sure why, but I became obsessed. I must have looked at all those examples for hours, no joke. I decided I wanted to enter, if only to make one, not really to win (though I'd take the prizes lol)...I was thinking of how I'd do Alex when I remembered I couldn't mess with him - III is apart, I is modeling, and the others aren't in a state to even look at atm.

Then it hit me. Skullface!!! I dragged him to work and took a million pictures of him Friday. Of the shots, these are the ones that turned out.

Which I thought were decent photos, but don't help when trying to make paper dolls :\

Because I was busy with a million other things over the weekend I didn't touch it again until yesterday (I was also busy Monday) when I took a million more photos.

Then it got hard. I went through all my pictures and pulled out the best ones of each part. For real, most all his parts are from separate pictures. I cut out the parts, sized and resized, and placed them all together in Photoshop. Some parts, like his head and bottom torso, are made of several photos.

Part of his hair, and the hat are cropped out. I took both of them from another photo and merged. I also had to do that with his pants a lot. He's pieced together like a patchwork doll lol more than a paper one.

 Each part is in it's own PS layer. This file is massive. You can tell he's made up of all different photos because each part is a different color XDDDD *fail*

Then I had to take him apart for the "layout"

Not too bad. But again, massive. I had this one merged to two layers, which was a good thing, because I couldn't print this on a regular printer. My intention was to split it onto two 11x17 sheets, but it was too big for that, and laid out wrong. SO I had to make yet another layout, or, 3 layouts, all 11x17 so I could place and print.

I almost wish I had done crazier poses to show how jointy he is. I used 19 brad-things to fasten him, and he's so tall the hat goes nearly to my hip when I hold him up. He's like, twice the size of the real Skullface. He's taped to the wall (you can see the tape on his foot. I'm pissed. I wish I'd seen it before I took the pictures). I put packing tape on him on the backside so I could stick masking tape to him and not damage him. I printed 4 out total, one on regular paper by accident, then three on card-stock. This one is just the card-stock version. The other two I laminated! When I get home tonight I'll start cutting and assembling. I didn't want to laminate the one I entered because I thought he'd be too shiny to photograph.

It's kind of dumb how much fun this thing is. I want to make more. I want to make even better ones! I have a list of things I'd have done better:

Make the black outline better, more consistent and on everything.
Make sure I know how all the joints will work, not just the last half (I got better as I went)
Add dots where the brads will go.
Cleaner pieces.
Better hair. And jointed.
Removable and jointed hat.
Better photos to start with.

It was always my intention to joint the hair, but my photos didn't match up in color or resolution, so I gave up. I think he's fine without. If he was even bigger I could joint the fingers and toes!! *dies*

I am really happy with how he turned out, regardless of what I'd do better. I'd love to make some of my drawings that I could sell at craftshows and stuff. That would be really awesome (guessing it wouldn't be quite legal to sell the ones of the dolls? Since I didn't make the dolls..?).

Anyway, I will call my first paper doll a wild success, whether I win anything or not, I'm thrilled.
Which is one of the reasons I used Skullface, since he was "born" for a DOA contest last year...and even though I didn't win he's been so awesome I'm thrilled. I never would have done that if not for the contest, and I love him! He still needs his one hand finished >.< but I think he looks good <3

I've got faceups and tatts to be doing...and can't do any of it due to weather....so might as well work on non-weather dependent things.

SO I picked up a few things on Etsy I'm excited about. An outfit that will probably be for Macchi (I sort of bought it without thinking of who I own who would actually wear it XD), and a shirt hopefully for Chibs (it's a slim mini shirt....yeah.), and two hats that were sort of impulse buys. I've been wanting to shop for clothes lately, but I really can't find what I want anywhere....so it's been hard. I want to give people money!! No one wants it!!

I was thinking of my "wish list" the other day. Doll Chateau....it's like death. Every other doll they release is something I think I want...but the latest -- Matthew and Isabella(?) got me thinking. I first thought it would be cool to get a Matthew head (I'm in love with his face) to either replace my Colin (Mini-Alex) or to be an extra head...but I'm really attached to Colin. I might get Matthew's head anyway...but I won't sell the Colin head. He's got to stay Alex.

I then thought about putting the whole doll on layaway next year, and he could be mini-Azrael.

Somehow that got me thinking about my poor Moon, who, along with her vine arms, has been in a box since last year when I gave Boo her body.

And I got an idea.

Yeah. Never good.

I have a definite plan now.

Part of the reason I never bought her a new body was because DC keeps coming out with newer, better ones. The other reason, they keep getting more and more expensive. And really I have no need for that Moon. She's gorgeous, but not a character, or even a personality, and I have a hard time spending the $$ on a doll I'm not emotionally involved in.

Well, as of yesterday when I was wandering around campus listing to my iPod, she's got a place in my collection. As does Star, the other head I sold the body out from under. I will wiping and completely redoing my Moon in a different color palate and getting her the new body with the bone wings (yay!). Star is going to be her "master" of sorts, and will be getting a 5star 1\6 child body...hopefully as soon as next week. I wasn't going to buy anything else for a while but this poor head has been hanging around for a few years now, and I have the $$. I've pulled him out already and I'm working on his look which I can hopefully iron out soon. I never knew what to do with him before...now I do and I'm so excited.

In other news, Carter is...not here yet. Omg seriously. The shipping part is taking forever! He may be here tomorrow, he was out of customs early this morning....

I can't even express how happy I am with him. Still with the default and everything. I want to wait for Carter to get here and do his face, Carter (who will be named Ghost) and Star (who may be Damien) all at once with Little Boo. they're all kind of...creepy, so they'll work at the same time.

LOL for whatever reason I just looked up the over-a-year-ago graveyarded sales thread on DOA of Chibi Alex. From his previous owner...when he was a girl XDDD

What's Up, Monday?

Not a lot. Lol it is early.

Commissions out the door (mostly -- still have a non-doll one, but hopefully it's just changing some text at this point) which means I have more time to work on my dolls again....and it's humid, rainy and gross. No sun, you can see the haze of humidity just hanging around -- not exactly ideal doll-working weather.

I have a head to photograph for a contest -- It's not in the rules that I can't talk about it, but you never know, so I won't. But I entered last year (and lost!) with one of my Kara Klums.....

My Dollzone Carter was finally FINALLY shipped last week, but tracking hasn't moved :P so god knows when it's going to get here. No rush. If I was in any kind of rush, I'd have been doomed XD
Other than being a ghost, and probably getting named Ghost, I don't have a set plan for this guy. I would like a silver or grey wig, but since I only own one that's not SD sized, that might not happen. I could go with fur for temps, but I'd prefer fiber for this one.....He'll get the dual colored eyes the Volks Midori was going to get when she was a ghost for all of five minutes. That poor doll. Someone needs to buy her.

Speaking of sales, another doll is headed out the door! I am hugely tempted to use it to reshell Mini Isis, but I think I'll wait. I've had a few new dolls (ok, mostly heads) come in recently and I'd like to not have any for a while -- at least until Dollism is over.

I was thinking of giving Chibi Alex (SQ-Labs Chibi Tsubaki) a weekly feature. I had this idea last week but didn't do it for one reason or another....
A little background:
I tend to photograph my dolls at work for various reason. My apartment is dark, with almost no natural light. The fixtures are older than I am so the artificial light is awful. My roommate and I are crafty, and artistic and both of us collect BJDs so the whole apt is our "craft room" so there's very little space for me to set up lights and props if I had any...and since I work the main part of the day there's not time for me to take pics outdoors....I have white walls and lots of light (artificial, but at least it's light) in my office at work so it's just easier. Not too creative, but someday I'll find a better way and maybe they will start to get better. Right now it's work pics or nuthin, lol so I figure what I've got is ok for now.

Friday's however, I don't bring the dolls in because I have to shuttle from an off-site parking lot.
This means maneuvering onto a bus with other employees, so I don't bring the big diaper bag I use to haul dolls and my camera around. It's too cumbersome to have on a bus full of people. So no dolls Fridays (this is also why I can't ship things Friday - the back-and-forth from work to parking lot takes so much times I can't make it to the PO before it closes).

I do sometimes toss Chibs into my purse since he's travel-sized. He doesn't really do anything but stand around looking cool (since he's adult-Alex he can't be cute. He gets angry at cute), but with no camera there are never pictures.

Last week I thought I should just snap a few with my phone (iphone 4S -- worst camera ever. I hate it.) and call it Friday Phone Photos with Chibs. But I never got around to it. I thought about it over the weekend and thought it might be a good idea to have a weekly feature -- if only to guarantee at least one entry a week XD

My best friend and I are going to Disney World next year in the spring, and a while back she mentioned I should bring Baby Alex to photograph around the park. I sort of dismissed the idea -- Originally when I bought him, Baby Alex was supposed to be my Travel-Alex, a mini version of him that could go everywhere and I wouldn't have to drag around the bigger version. But he was too tiny and cute and baby-like, so that didn't really happen. I adore Baby Alex - he's my favorite tiny - but Adult Alex is who I'm most attached too...and I wanted the fabulous outfits he'd wear in tiny-size XD A couple of those Another Space outfits, tiny hoodies....all this stuff I got and hung on too for years that no one wore because all my tinies are children and wear lace and fluff.

When I got Chibi Alex last year he was perfect. The tiny version of Alex I had wanted that could be tossed in a bag and brought anywhere.

The best part about him is that I see him as a total independent in my collection. He can be alone, I don't even have the desire to own other characters around him as I normally do (in Puki and Mini size), which is awesome. I don't even really see him chained to his own continuity like I do the rest of them (which is why he's not even listed as being in the same universe as the others are on my Doll List) so I feel a little more free to "play" with him than I do the others who are locked into character in my eyes.

So Chibs will be going to Disney World, he'll be going as a tourist, bringing along a camera and the worst touristy shirt I can dig up for him and looking like a big dork. My goal (hopefully it will happen) is to take pictures of him on his vacation and post it for his feature -- which I will have to have established by then lol

I figured I'll do a trial at Dollism. He'd be going anyway, so I'll just make sure I have him on me the whole time and try really hard to do the photo thing. I usually forget to take pictures -- I get to into whatever I'm doing and just don't. This might motivate me.

I want to get him his own carrier, one that a smaller digital camera (I've been wanting to buy one for years, and I wanted one before Dollism anyway) could go in also, so it would be easier to get him out and stand him somewhere -- but YOsd sized carriers are hard to find. I have no idea what would work! I ordered him a camera and couple other things of ebay yesterday and I've been looking for more clothes for him, but it's also hard to find "adult" tiny clothes. Everything is for children :P

In preparation for his new feature, I tightened his strings last night and holy crap. He needs to be the poster-doll for restringing. He was a hot mess, so kicky I could barely get him to stand anymore. Now he's a rock!! He stands great, no kickiness at all! :D

Updates of the BJD kind

Long time no post. I was doing good for awhile there....then died. lol. Not literally...

So what's been happening? Not a lot. I started the open-mouth mod. I'll post pics of that when I get them situated. I want to start a project journal on DOA for my 7th Kara Klum, and these open-mouth guys are part of that....so when I get more photos I may do that.

I did a faceup for a contest. I doubt I have chance, but here's hoping.

I redid Isis's faceup while doing some commissions. Then it rained for a week so nothing else got done.

Alex III had some damage to his faceup -- somehow. I took him to Texas for Doll-A-Kon, he survived all that traveling, got back and unpacked perfectly fine....and then proceed to chip his face sitting on a shelf. I swear to god, if those Kara Klums were any more like Alex they'd get off the shelf and come after me in my sleep.

I fixed his faceup and kind of.....fixed it better? I like it more now. Isis's new faceup is kind of like her old, first faceup lol. She's regressed. I decided she could wear makeup again.

I sold my AOD body I've had for years....this was Sage's other old body (she's goin' thru 'em). Haven't done anything with the $$ yet, I might actually save it for Dollism. :O Right??! Crazy.

I put MIni-Isis up for sale as a full doll. I think I'd like to try her out as a Dollmore Judith - which I was contemplating before I got the Souldoll Janne. My dream would be for enough stuff to sell so I could maybe buy one at Dollism if they had one. If they don't, or I don't have the $$ I'm not getting other dolls.....for real. I won't be able to travel back with them lol.

I was tooling around in the MP last week looking at Dollzone and Doll Chateau heads to replace Boo's Ro head with, and I found DZ Reiko. The sales photos weren't great, so I looked it up on MOC (which is what I do with all the dolls they sell lol). I did a mock-up and liked it, then realized that they not only had a WS one instock, but it was the last one, as it's one of the molds DZ has discontinued. I went on and bought it, cause I didn't want to take the chance of missing out. It finally came today (they took their time shipping!). It has a default faceup I'll be wiping, but since I had no choice...well, I had no choice lol.

Say hi to the new Boo.

 Here are my thoughts on Boo.

Boo was a concept I came up with years ago for Baby Alex - the doll. I took him to work one day to sit on my desk and be cutes, and for the first time ever, I had the thought that he must be lonely, as I had no other dolls his size. I don't generally think that about my dolls, but I did then.

In the history of Alex and his character, he didn't have friends growing up....so I couldn't justify getting another YO sized doll to relate to him. But he did have that white, plush bunny from Dollheart...and for some reason I thought of Soom's Ai, recently arriving to owners and something I kind of regretted not getting. I thought Ai would make a good bunny, and Boo was born. I drew him, named him, and new I wanted Soom Ai's head on a LTF body. I had a back-up plan if I couldn't get Ai, but I did (for pretty cheap!), so it was a pointless plan.

 Several years went by, and I liked having little Boo, and decided to "grow" Boo up.

I started looking at Dollzone because that was the aesthetic I wanted, and loved Ro -- the blank head pictures were perfect. Unfortunately, the real Ro didn't look like that.

The Boo "character" was a formless thing that fed on the lifeforce or essence of Alex when he was a baby...it used that to create itself a body based off Alex (which is why they had to have the same body as children) and the stuffed bunny he had with him. It was supposed to "grow" with him, though not exact -- I didn't want another Pado, I wanted Boo to be his own self, but similar in ages.

The actual Ro had a longer, narrower face than depicted in the blank head shots, which actually made me think either they were accidentally photoshopped or even that wasn't the "final" head - like it was a prototype or something.

Needless to say I had issues with him from day 1 - from him being too big, to too mature. The too big thing I solved by switching bodies so he was on the girl body. I tried to get over the too mature thing, but finally gave up. I tried for over a year....I love that Ro, but it's not what I wanted.

Reiko is way more what I wanted. I think with a Boo faceup it'll be even better. The eyes aren't narrow like the Ai eyes (which is one of the features I was looking for) but I think the wider eyes helps it to have a less-human appearance and it looks younger. I can't wait to get him home next to Little Alex. And to wipe that faceup and give it a new one -- I wiped little Boo's face and body too so I'll do them both together so they look the same for a change.

Little Boo....ugh. I swear Soom has the worst resin. It's SO yellow! That head and body started off identical - and they're the same age - now the head is lemon-yellow and the body is still white (and it's Fairyland! I used to think they yellowed fast...). And it's not like I took him out in the sun a lot or it's dirty or the sealant....it's yellowed all the way through, evenly, and I have cleaned him off....so sad. I'll have to do a lot of whitening to get him close to his body...

Lol my tracking said Boo's new head wouldn't arrive until tomorrow, I had Macchi and Mini-Alex at work with me when I ran home to grab the package....so now I have three dolls on my desk at work >.<

I doubt anyone has ever noticed this about me, but I have definite patterns when it comes to dolls. One of them is, when I get a doll (or dolls) I am very happy with, and works out well, I tend to look at my collection and start re-evaluating what I want, what works and what just doesn't.

I got Java and that sort of completed that little group of dolls. I'm happy with them, I love them, other than giving them all a body blushing I think they're perfect. I want to spoil them and make them pretty and buy things for them.

So I started looking at some of the others I have sitting around and thinking "I do nothing with you and you're not what I want anymore"...

It happens.

This weekend I'm going to drag out all the resin bits and dolls that giving me not-so-great feelings and put them all up for sale. Some of them, again.

This post is mostly for me, as I officially gave up on all these things last night, and want an official record of what I want to do so I remember lol.

Also becuase for some reason I feel like I have to explain why I'm selling some of them. I don't know why.....I have guilt or something.

Dollzone Ro. I can't make him work. I've tried and tried and it's just not happening. His face is too mature and he's not what I wanted....the pictures of the blank head on Dollzone don't look like the head does in person, I've struggled with him enough, and I'm going to try and replace him with something else. Either a Dollzone Rafael, or one of four or five DC heads.

Mini Isis
I just don't think that the Janne head is a believable Isis. She needs to be older-looking or something. And not look so much like Mini-Alex. That freaks me out. She will also just be getting replaced with another SD head or a MNF Mirwen or Celine, possibly something I haven't thought of yet....I'm actually debating selling the whole doll, as I am not a fan of the back-breaking boob size, but so far Souldoll is the tallest girl body I have found...

Jubilee and Wolverine
For now, I'm giving up on them. I honestly think the Cosmo head isn't going to work, it's a hair too big and the proportions bother me. I am going to sell the whole doll (minus the jointed hands which I'll keep) because I can always get another Mirodoll body if I decide to try again, and right now I'm pretty happy with just having Gambit and Jean.

Jubilee is only being sold as a head because last night I gave her body to Sage. I like the AOD body, but I think I like the Delf one better XD
Sage won out, I put the F60 neck part on the Delf girl bod and now she's a whole CP girl. I'm so proud of her! lol So the DES head is going, because I'll probably not use it for anything else, and Sageypoo gets to look fabulous, and have interchangeable-with-two-other-dolls hands, since two more of my girls have Delf hands.

As for Gambit, I am very much set on that River head being him, IF he looks ok with Jean. If not, he gets the Heath head again, and I'll do something else with River. If he does look good with her, Heath goes up for sale again, probably at a lower price.....which sucks.

Same for the Volks Midori......I've had her for sale a couple times now, hopefully this will be the last time.

Y'know what's sad? If I update my profile to reflect this list, I won't own anymore Dollzone dolls. I went from 4, to none (though I still have four bodies XD). Someday Carter will get here and I'll have one again!! And maybe Rafael will work ok as Boo.

Lots of Stuff. Ok, just Some Stuff.

We had a dollmeet this weekend that was 80's themed, so I had some fun throwing together a few looks for my dolls. Isis, Alex (I) and Marcus went as Flashdance, random 80's punk and Jason from Friday the 13th, and my whole group of 8 (ok so not the whole group, I left one at home) mature minis went in 80's inspire garb. I thought they looked amazing lol and after I was kicking myself for not taking any photos at all. Everyone really went all out for this meet, their dolls looked great. And I didn't even bring a camera!! Such fail.

I really should try to get a pic of Isis and Alex together, maybe with Jason (Marcus) lurking in the bg lol.

Anyway, I don't have much to update with...my Song was finally (supposedly) shipped this weekend, so I'm hoping he'll be here someday this week (but who really knows.). I managed to order the Migidoll River head (he's super-limited, so if you want one, go now!!), and I'm really excited to get him now because I have realized that I think he looks like a more realistic Volks Heath. Which means I might remake Gambit. It just depends on...things.

I bought him to possibly be Marcus, so I'll do that first.....but if he looks even remotely good with Jean I might even skip that and let Ell stay Marcus (I think he's just fine anyway) and do River up as Gambit. I'll have to buy much smaller eyes for him, but....who cares.

I'll have to hang on to Heath a while before deciding if I want to keep him or wipe and sell at a loss because no one wants that mold anymore (which is sad because I've really come to like it) and I didn't get any COA with him which means he'll be impossible to sell anyway.

I don't know what I'll do. Wait until he gets here I suppose, and see how he looks with Jean and David (and Alex) then go from there.

So now my wait-list has grown to:

Dollmore Kara Klum (yay!)
Resinsoul Song (hope he's actually shipped)
Migidoll River (head only)

Regardless of who River ends up being (Gambit, Marcus or even possibly a second Michael), he will have to share with one or two of the other heads. So no bodies yet.

I have no issues with Jean if Gambit becomes more realistic, but Jubilee might have to go. Soo is a great mold for her, but not even remotely real enough with the others. I may just look for a new head for her, or sell her completely. And of course I'm still having issues with Logan....I might look for a new head and start over from scratch. Or sell the thing and just quit. Maybe all I really need are Jean and Gambit anyway (I love having them as dolls!).

Ugh. I can't decide what I want to do!!!
